Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Angel's patients:

  • Remove tegaderm and gauze after 3 days. Dr. Angel does not typically use these dressings, but if he does he wants it left on wound until he sees the patient.
  • Leave the steri-strips in place. These will come off by themselves.
  • Showers and short baths are fine the day after surgery, but do not soak in water or swim for 1 week after surgery.
  • Wash the wound daily with soap and water during bath or shower, after the dressing is removed.
  • Call the office for any signs of infection.
  • Redness and/or warmness at the wound site.
  • Severe pain and wound site.
  • Drainage (pus) at the wound site.
  • Temperature of 101.5 degrees or higher.
  • Severe swelling at the wound site.
  • Skin graft patients should not remove any bandages. The doctor will remove the bandages when the patient is seen in the office.

Dr. Fowler's patients:

  • Remove tegaderm and gauze after 5 days. May take a brief shower or sponge bath with tegaderm in place during this time. Keep dressing dry as possible.
  • May resume normal showering and bathing 7 days after surgery.
  • Let the steri-strips fall of by themselves.
  • Call the office for any signs of infection (listed above).
  • Skin graft patients should not remove any bandages.

    The doctor will remove the bandages when the patient is seen in the office.

Dr. Roaten's patients:

  • Remove tegaderm and gauze after 3 days.
  • Leave stri-strips in place.  These will come off by themselves.
  • Your child may shower 48 hours after surgery but no baths for 7 to 10 days after surgery
  • Wash the wound daily with soap and water during bath or shower after dressing has been removed.
  • Call the office for any signs of infection: Redness or warmness at the wound site, severe pain or swelling at the wound site, drainage (pus) from the wound, or temperature of 101.5 or higher.

Umbilical hernia wounds should remain covered until the patient returns to see Dr. Roaten in the clinic!

Skin graft patients should NOT remove any bandages!  Dr. Roaten will remove the bandages when he sees the child in follow up.
